I read in the FAQ that Bongo did not intend to be an Exchange competitor. I'm curious as to why.

Certainly, there are various projects trying to do this, but I really feel like they are failing. It's difficult to really understand why they are failing, but none of those solutions are truly comparable to what Exchange offers.

My impression is that one of the reasons they are failing is due to the lack of simplicity. They attempt to be everything right out of the gate and some details get lost in the shuffle. With Bongo, it appears that the project is being planned in steps, which sounds very good. Even looking at the design and layout of information on the current Bongo website, it gives the impression of attention to detail with a focus on simplicity. I think this is a perfect approach toward (eventually) building an open source competitor to Exchange.

To the Bongo development team, please don't rule out the possibility of pitting Bongo as an Exchange alternative, perhaps by version 3.0 or so. Thank you.

Well, there are a number of reasons - primarily, the OpenChange guys are trying to compete with Exchange, and they'll likely do a very good job.

Eventually, I think we'd like to work with OpenChange and become an Exchange competitor in a way, but only in that people might choose to use Bongo instead of Exchange. We're not going to chase it feature for feature - we're going to make Bongo as good as it can be, and it will stand or fall on those merits.
