Hello all.

I am running OpenSuSE 11 and installed from the repos without issue. Upon running "bongo-config install" as root, I got the error others seem to be getting about not being able to open the users sqlite database. I ran "chown -R bongo /var/bongo" which fixed the issue.

After running the command again, I no longer get this error, but after entering the mail domains, the program sits idle for several minutes and finally errors out:

Please make sure that bongo is not running before you run bongo-config install

Hey Lance - thanks for the reply. I did forget to include in my post that I had tried it both ways. For good measure, I just ran "service bongo stop" and then re-ran the command, but I get the same result.

Any other suggestions?

Also, forgive my ignorance but to what is bongo-config attempting to connect? And by tcp or socket or file or what? Some more information might help me troubleshoot some machine-specific issues.

As part of the install process, bongo-config starts bongostore and attempts to connect to it over port 689 - apparently, it's failing.

You could try running bongostore manually (it should just sit there blankly, you quit it with Ctrl-C) - that might throw up an error message.

Ok, that helped a little bit. The reason it could not connect to bongostore is that (for reasons passing understanding) my server had no loopback interface.

I am not sure why this is the case, but I added one using "ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1". Then, upon running the install again, I get a little feedback:

The last 'couldn't auth' error is because bongo-config install starts the store in a special mode which disables authentication (you obviously can't authenticate before authentication is set up . It runs 'bongostore --install'.

The stack smashing thing is a bit concerning. Can you tell us what OS you're using?

I just installed the 0.6 branch on a Ubunut 9.04 server and get the same error (after specifying my mail domains):

ERROR: Cannot create server credential

I've checked if bongostore (or any other bongo process) was running, but that turned out to be negative.

Any idea what's going wrong?

The cmake command I run is

The cmake and make commands are executed as a normal user; make install via sudo.

But you were right: it was a permission issue. /usr/var (with this install; so probably also /usr/local/bongo/var with the previous install) was owned by root and had 700 as permission code.

I did not check if this directory existed before, but I suppose not because bonge was the only child folder in it. My umask for root is set to 0022, but for the user I made bongo with 0077...
